When it comes to tax deadlines, everyone knows about the Big One—April 15 (or, as it falls this year, April 18). But tax filing includes multiple dates, and they actually happen throughout the year.
So here are some other dates that may be applicable for you to keep in mind for the next few months:
For PERSONAL & FREELANCE tax filers
January 24: Tax season begins! First day IRS is accepting 2021 tax returns
February 15: 1099-B. If you sold stock or received interest/dividends from investments, this is the deadline your brokerage firm has to send you this form, or have it available for you to download.
April 18: Income tax returns (or extension request) due
April 18: First-quarter estimated tax payment due (for freelancers and business-owners)
April 18: Last day to contribute to Solo 401(k), Simplified Employee Pension (SEP-IRA), Traditional or Roth IRA, or Health Savings Account (HSA) for and have it count as a 2021 contribution
April 18: Last day to withdraw any excess IRA contributions for 2021 to avoid penalty
For PARTNERSHIP LLC and CORPORATE tax filers
January 31: Distribute W-2s, 1099-NEC, 1099-MISC to recipients
January 31: Summary forms W-3 and 1096 (for 1099-NEC) filing due date, along with corresponding W-2s, and 1099-NEC
January 31: Quarterly (Oct-Dec 2021) withholding, wage reporting, and unemployment insurance returns due
February 22: New York January Sales Tax (monthly filers only) due
February 28: Summary form 1096 filing due date, along with corresponding 1099-MISC
March 15: S Corporation and Partnership tax returns due
March 21: New York Sales tax for the Dec.2021 – Feb.2022 Quarter
April 18: C corporation tax returns (or extension request) due
April 18: Last day to contribute to Solo 401(k), Simplified Employee Pension (SEP-IRA for 2021
April 20: New York March sales tax (monthly filers only) due
May 2: Quarterly withholding (Jan-Apr), wage reporting, and unemployment insurance returns due
